Alex Hetherington

Alex Hetherington is an aspiring mezzo-soprano with an extensive background of solo and choral experience. She is in her fourth year of the Vocal Performance Program at the University of Toronto. She studies there with Monica Whicher, and is this year’s recipient of the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto Centennial Scholarship. As a soloist Alex has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (2014), Camera Ensemble (2016-2018), Schola Cantorum and the Theatre of Early Music (2017-2018), Tallis Choir (2015-2017), and the Toronto All-Star Big Band (2013-2015). Alex sang in her first professional opera in May 2017, in the ensemble of Tapestry Opera’s Oksana G; she joined Tapestry again in May 2018 for their Songbook VIII. She recently came first in her class at the 2018 Kiwanis Festival, receiving the Mary Ellen Trimble Award. Alex has a strong interest in contemporary music, and enjoys working with composers to expand Canadian repertoire for singers. She is also a composer herself, with works performed in concert by the Gryphon Trio and members of Esprit Orchestra.

Alex is delighted to be involved with Orpheus Choir this year.
