Robert Cooper, C.M., B.Mus., M.Mus., D.Litt.,  Artistic Director, Conductor

One of Canada’s leading conductors of choral music, Robert Cooper is currently also the Artistic Director of the Chorus Niagara, Orpheus Choir of Toronto, the Opera in Concert Chorus, and the Faculty of Music Women’s Chorus, University of Toronto.

Mr. Cooper has had the honour of conducting the National Youth Choir of Canada and made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1997 for a Celebration of Canadian Choral Music. He has conducted symphony orchestras in Halifax, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Orchestra London, opera companies in Victoria, Ottawa and Winnipeg as well as Toronto Operetta Theatre and Opera in Concert. Acknowledged as an innovative programmer, Mr. Cooper has premiered works by many Canadian and international composers.

Most recently Mr. Cooper was guest conductor at Newfoundland’s Festival 500, Parry Sound’s Festival of the Sound, the 2007 Ontario Youth Choir and will conduct Ottawa’s Thirteen Strings in December

Robert Cooper has served as President of both the Ontario Choral Federation and the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors and is on the Board of Directors of Chorus America. To complete the circle, Mr. Cooper brings fine choral music to all of Canada as Executive Producer, Opera and Choral Music, for CBC Radio Two.

Robert Cooper received an Honorary Doctorate degree from Brock University for his significant contribution to the Canadian choral community and was recently made a member of the Order of Canada.
